With the new Children’s Shelter’s expanded capacity, we are able to serve 50 percent more children. Most of the children who come to stay at the Children’s Shelter arrive with no personal items, and, regardless of their age, many have never had anything NEW to call their own.
Too often we hear from the kids that their very first new item was given to them at the Children’s Shelter. Whether it is a new pair of tennis shoes, a new backpack for school or their very own hair brush; having something new means a lot to them. It can help build their self-esteem and make them feel valued by others.
Kayla, a 5-year-old girl who got to pick out her own new clothes, was incredibly excited to try everything on and wanted to do a “fashion show.” After she picked out her new outfits, she told the Children’s Shelter staff, “My mom is going to be so jealous of my new clothes … my friends, too.” She showed off her new outfits to everyone she saw that day!
You can make a child feel valued by making a financial donation. With your donation, the children will be able to have clothing, shoes, make-up and other personal items that fit each child’s size and taste. Your donation will allow us to provide the following NEW items for the kids.
A Teen-age Girl ($290)
A School-age Girl ($225)
A School-age Boy ($210)
A Preschool-age boy or girl ($200)
An Infant Boy or Girl ($215)
