Opportunities
DIRECT SERVICES
Direct service volunteers work with the staff as they care for and interact with the children:
- Direct Care (School Aged) – Providing positive adult attention to boys ages 5-12 and/or girls ages 5-17.
- Direct Care (Infant/Preschool) – Working with staff in the care of children ages 0-5.
- Outing Chaperone – Accompanying the children on outings and activities in the community
- Education – Working with the children and teachers in the on-site school
- Skill Classes – Volunteers with special talents or skills (i.e. yoga, basketball, computers, music) who come out periodically to do lead small classes on their subject.
SUPPORT SERVICES
Support service volunteers assist the Shelter in many ways, which may involve some interaction with the children, but primarily involve other necessary tasks. Previous experience is preferred, though not required for these volunteer positions:
- Office Assistant – Answering the phones and greeting visitors M-F during the day
- Maintenance/Landscaping – Working with the Maintenance Coordinator on general maintenance, automotive, and/or landscaping needs.
SPECIAL EVENT VOLUNTEERS (ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITIES)
Don’t have the time to be an ongoing volunteer? If you have just one day (or even just a few hours) to give, you can make a difference. Special Event Volunteers assist at fundraisers and community events that occur throughout the year. The application process is not required for these opportunities. If you would like to be added to the Special Event Volunteer email list to receive information about these opportunities as they arise, please contact Eva Laurin, the Volunteer Coordinator.
GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Groups looking to volunteer at the Children’s Shelter have several different options:
- Group Childcare – Volunteer groups must all go through the volunteer application process for this opportunity, but once completed, groups can volunteer to come out to the Shelter and host organized, fun activities for the children (soccer games, pizza parties, bingo, etc).
- Group Projects – Group projects include important projects that are difficult for our staff to do on a day-to-day basis, such as landscaping and deep cleaning at the facility. Volunteers for group projects do not have to go through the application process.
All direct service and support service volunteers must complete the application packet before volunteering at the Shelter. Please see the Volunteer Requirements page for more details.
