Our Employee Spotlight is on Jacara Hemphill! Jacara has been part of the Shelter team for five years and currently serves as the Activities Coordinator. In that position, she plans all of the on-site and off-site activities for the children in our care.
What is your favorite part about your job? “I enjoy being able to build a good rapport with the kiddos. Once you’ve done that, you’ve conquered part of the battle. I LOVE being able to see them thoroughly enjoy themselves while doing an activity or having a new and exciting experience!”
Share your favorite kid moment: “It happened just this past weekend. I danced with a kiddo as she boldly and fearlessly sang her heart out – like there was no one else in the room but her. It did my heart some good to see her just be free – without a care in the world!”
How are the Shelter’s programs impacting kids every day? “The Shelter has people in place who genuinely care about the work that they do. Making a difference in the kids’ lives that have been entrusted to us, starts there! The typical day-to-day interactions can be impactful. If love and true genuine care is what is given first, everything else will follow naturally. Once our kiddos know that we actually care, they can begin to let their guard down and trust us. That is when the real lessons can begin to settle in.”
We’re so happy to have Jacara as part of our team!
