Meet AJ

When AJ* came to the Shelter, his teeth had so much build-up and decay that we couldn’t actually see the majority of his front teeth – just brown tartar and plaque. He actually broke a tooth in half while eating lunch and we took him for an emergency dental appointment that same day. He was prescribed antibiotics for infection and we were told that he needed extensive dental treatment. His case manager worked tirelessly to schedule the many appointments and arrange for transportation to each one. Six root canals, two extractions, and multiple fillings and crowns later, AJ has a smile that he can be proud of.

The Shelter has truly given me hope to pursue my life to the fullest, put my past behind me, and move on to bigger and better things in life. The staff members, who I think of as family, have brought me to realize that I am valuable, strong and able to conquer anything I set my mind on.

Chelsea, age 13

I’m glad to have a place that has food, water, clothes, beds, and, most of all, electricity.

Brianne, age 12

This place has made me feel the most at home. What makes it so special is the staff. I have never met such caring and dedicated staff.

Katie, age 14
